Water is Too Precious to Use Only Once

GRU is serious about its responsibility for the water of today and tomorrow. Florida has a limited fresh water supply and future availability depends on preservation. GRU routinely tests new conservation technologies such as irrigation soil moisture sensors, and uses reclaimed water for irrigation and industrial cooling to reduce groundwater demands.

GRU has protected and provided Gainesville's drinking water supply since 1891. The water system now serves approximately 189,000 people.

How is GRU Conserving Water?

Our water conservation philosophy is simple: reduce, reuse and recycle. See the "Resources" section below to learn what we are doing to protect this valuable resource.
