FY19 Budget

The Gainesville City Commission approved GRU’s approximately $420 million fiscal year 2019 capital and operating budget on Sept. 20, 2018.

The budget includes a 2 percent increase in electric base rates. This increase adds $1.76 per month to the average GRU customer’s electric bill based on 800 kWh or $1.87 per month based on the standard industry comparison of 1,000 kWh. Visit gru.com/ratecalculator to see how the increase will impact your bill.

The approved budget enables GRU to continue providing safe and reliable utilities in a financially and environmentally responsible manner. It also helps the utility continue to support community initiatives such as improved efficiency for low-income customers and payment assistance programs.

A large portion of this year’s budget funds utility-wide software system upgrades essential to modernizing our organization. These upgrades lay the foundation for customer benefits such as greater control over electric and water usage through smart meters, shorter phone wait times, quicker turn-on service and faster leak detection.

GRU also is increasing its purchased gas adjustment by $2 in October. The purchased gas adjustment is a pass-through for fuel expenses. Even with this $2 increase, GRU’s natural gas prices are the lowest in the state.

The chart below illustrates the impact these increases will have on a GRU customer’s monthly bill using industry standard comparisons.
