More about Drop Savers ...
GRU is a proud participant in the Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest, which invites kindergarten through 12th-grade students to advocate for water conservation through poster design.
While the contest challenges students to showcase their artistic skills (like the amazing work to your left from a local high schooler), it also sends an important message about water conservation. Recent studies at the University of Cambridge and the University of California, Berkeley, show that engaging children in conservation efforts yields long-term behavioral change. The Drop Savers Poster Contest aims to foster a sense of responsibility toward water conservation in our youth. In doing so, we pave the way for a sustainable future.
Last year, students were challenged to create posters that represented several different aspects of water conservation. Five winners were chosen from our division and their posters were submitted to the state competition. The winners in our area received:
- A gift bag from the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association.
- A Fracture image of their poster artwork from GRU.
- Placement in our annual water quality report received by every customer.
The winner of the state competition receives a cash prize. The contest serves as an educational platform and a reminder of our collective responsibility to conserve water.
“Children are our future, the next generation, so it is crucial to educate them early about where the water they drink comes from and the importance of preserving and conserving it,” said GRU Environmental Programs Coordinator and Drop Savers Regional Chair Andrea Ditto. “And they should have fun while learning about it!”
