Tips to lower the energy bill for your business
Lighting can account for nearly one-third of a business's total energy needs. In many cases, the same light output can be achieved using lower-wattage lamps. This can reduce both the electricity costs for the lighting itself and the air conditioning needed to remove heat caused by lighting (internal heat load).
- Consider replacing standard incandescent bulbs with long-life compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). CFLs have a rated life of 10,000 hours.
- Use the lowest wattage lamp necessary to complete tasks safely.
- Turn lights off in unoccupied rooms at all times.
- Take advantage of natural daylight by strategically placing desks and work stations.
