Our first water reuse project

Kanapaha botanical water garden

As our first water reuse project, we used Kanapaha Botanical Gardens to demonstrate the safety and beauty of reclaimed water.

Irrigation
We provide the entire 62-acre botanical gardens with reclaimed water for irrigation. The gardens feature plants, trees and a wildlife sanctuary.

Man-made Water Gardens
GRU partnered with the North Florida Botanical Society to design a reclaimed water garden that simulates a "spring to sink" Florida ecosystem. The water garden is now home to large predators such as alligators – a sign that the ecosystem is flourishing. The water garden includes:

  • An upper pond
  • A 600-foot meandering stream
  • Four waterfalls
  • A lower pond

Interactive Summer House
GRU is a principal sponsor of the Kanapaha Botanical Garden Summer House, which demonstrates sustainable building practices. Our interactive touch-screen kiosk provides energy- and water-saving tips and a layout of the gardens.
