Serving Gainesville since 1930

GRU's Main Street Water Reclamation Facility, originally built in 1930, was remodeled and expanded in the 1950s to meet the growing needs of the Gainesville community. The plant discharges high quality effluent to the Sweetwater Branch, which flows across Paynes Prairie and enters Alachua Sink. Currently, it serves residents in the southeast and northeast areas and is permitted to treat 7.5 million gallons of water per day.

Request a Tour

GRU offers guided tours of its utility plants, including the Main Street Water Reclamation Facility.

A tour of the facility gives you a behind-the-scenes look into the working of a wastewater treatment plant. The tour is flexible and can be easily adapted to fit the education and level of interest of the group.

Group tours of the water reclamation facilities are available free of charge. Please allow a minimum of 1.5 hours for the tour.

For more information, visit the Facility Tours and Speakers page.
